The Dow Environment, Health & Safety organisation has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a

  Toxicologist

to be based at our European Headquarters in Horgen, Switzerland. 

In this role you will be part of our multi-disciplinary team responsible for ensuring the safety of Dow products and manufacturing processes around the world. Key responsibilities:

  • Consulting Toxicologist:
    • Advising Dow businesses on mammalian toxicological issues including guiding product development
    • Advising on compliance with the requirements of regional chemicals legislation such as the new EU Chemical Policy (REACH) 
    • Coordinating and contributing to the preparation of substance registration dossiers for REACH and other regulatory programmes
    • Plan and monitor the conduct of toxicological studies (via the Dow toxicology laboratory, or external toxicology laboratories) to meet regulatory, business and product safety needs
    • Representing Dow in various national and international Trade Association Groups
    • Anticipating new developments in toxicology, regulatory toxicology and risk assessment
  • Contributing to Dow’s toxicology research programme
  • Establishing and  maintaining an external network with academic, industrial and regulatory contacts

Qualifications

  • PhD toxicologist with preferably a minimum of 3-5 years experience in various aspects of mammalian toxicology; or Toxicologists with a Masters degree and a minimum of 6-9 years experience in various aspects of mammalian toxicology. Exceptional applicants with less experience, who are willing to undergo further on the job training, will also be considered.
  • Fluency in English, other languages are valued
  • Excellent written and oral communication (and presentational) skills
  • Team player

Additional Desirable skills:

- Experience in other toxicological areas such as environmental toxicology and risk assessment

- Experience in EU chemicals Regulations

- Experience in advising clients of regulatory and toxicological issues

- Conveying technical information to non-technical audience

- Experience in IT tools such as IUCLID

The Position:

The mission of the Outsourcing & Documentation section is to provide support within Non-Clinical Safety (Toxicology andDMPK) concerning the outsourcing of toxicology and bioanalytical studies, the reporting of internal and external studies,the shipment of API and formulations and the overall planning within Basel Non-Clinical Safety. This is a newly created position with the aim to centralize the study monitoring/coordination from previously a number of individuals to one person. Youwill be responsible for the study monitoring and coordination of all outsourced toxicology studies from Roche Basel. The majority ofstudies will be general toxicitiy studies. Your main tasks will be the discussion and agreement on study design internally with Project Toxicologists and scientists from different disciplines based on provided study outlines, achieve agreement withCROs on technical and scientific aspects of studies, setting up draft and final protocols with CROs, control quality by monitoringstudies at the CROs, resolution of issues, timely communication of all critical data to project toxicologist or area expert, review of draft report, manage organizational and financial study aspects in close interaction with Roche Procurement andwith support from within the group, maintain overview on all planned and ongoing studies, tracking of timelines for all outsourcedstudies in existing system, involvement in general discussions with CROs to ensure Roche access to state of the art CRO services. You will be located in Basel, Switzerland and report directly to the Head Non-Clinical Safety Outsourcing& Documentation.

Who you are:

You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You have worked for at least 3 years as Study Director and for at least 5 years as Study Monitor on generaltoxicity studies.The following skill sets are required for this critical position within Non-Clinical Safety: Excellent communication skills, friendly and open personality, team player, well organized, pragmatic, goal oriented, focused, highly motivated, fluent English skillsin speaking and writing (native speaker will be an advantage), willingness to travel frequently (also on short notice in caseof issues).
