The German Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU), will present
its report “Precautionary Strategies for Managing Nanomaterials” in Brussels.

In
early September 2011, SRU published a 600
pages report on “Precautionary Strategies for Managing Nanomaterials” which
contains recommendations for a responsible and precautionary development of this
new technology. The overall strategic objective for this precautionary approach
is to allow for innovation but also to identify and reduce risks at an early
stage. The SRU holds the view that the regulation of nanomaterials is in urgent
need of reform and calls for more transparency with regard to the use of
nanomaterials in consumer products. This especially applies to European
chemicals policy. The executive summary and the recommendations of the report
